In 2024, Baltic banks developed a unified framework to map and evaluate their clients’ ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices. Esgrid created a digital platform for collecting and analysing sustainability data, fully digitalising the questionnaire. Swedbank supported the process, and together they implemented the first pilot project.
The new solution developed by Esgrid enables financial institutions across the Baltics to effectively manage the sustainability of their portfolios. It also significantly simplifies the process for clients, as the data entered into Esgrid’s platform can be easily reused, shared, or updated as needed.
In collaboration with Esgrid, Swedbank conducted the first digital ESG assessment of business clients in the Baltics. The project collected and analysed critical data on the sustainability of loan portfolios. "Our collaboration with Swedbank marks an important first step in the digitalisation of sustainability data in the financial sector. We’re delighted that the largest bank in the Baltics is driving innovation by collaborating with young technology companies like ours," said Oksana Tolmatšova, CEO and Co-founder of Esgrid.
Mihkel Tamm, Swedbank’s Head of Sustainability for Corporate Banking, added:
"ESG is a relatively new and complex topic for many businesses, so it’s crucial to make the process of providing relevant data as simple and efficient as possible. This, in turn, helps foster greater awareness and understanding of the importance of sustainable business practices. Our pilot project with Esgrid achieved its goals. We gained valuable insights on how to improve the questionnaire and further streamline the client journey when submitting ESG data."
